Employer Essentials To hire a new member of staff, whether at junior or senior director level, is an important consideration for any company. Once the decision has been made to take someone on, the next step is to work out the best and most efficient way of recruiting the right candidate. There are the obvious methods such as advertising in the trade press and on the Net and there's no denying that a large response can be achieved because we do it ourselves. However, although the response may be large it is not always good! How many of the candidates applying are really what you, the employer, is looking for? and even the ones that have presented good CVs can often turn out to be a disappointment at interview. When you meet a candidate for the first time you will generally know within the fist few minutes if he or she has anything to offer or whether you are flogging a dead horse. If it's the latter, you still have to be polite and spend at least some time with them when, in reality, all you want is for them to be gone as soon as possible. Even if you find someone you want to make an offer to you can be "gazumped" at the last hurdle by the incumbent agency that persuades the candidate to stay for promises of riches and eternal life! Other reasons for recruitment campaigns failing are; candidates live in the wrong geographical area and, although the job may be appealing, they decide they don't want to move house and home. Maybe they just didn't feel comfortable with you and felt the environment didn't suit them. The other reason is they haven't seen your ad! So, what do you do next? How can you get the candidate you want without all the grief, time and expense? Well that's where we come in! We exist to provide our clients with candidates who match their requirements as closely as possible without wasting anyone's time including the candidate's or ours but especially yours! In some cases we hit the nail right on the head but that is not always easy especially when searching for specialist people who are highly sought after throughout the industry. In all cases we thoroughly brief the candidate on the particular job in question and make sure that, if invited for interview, relevant work samples are shown. We also raise the issues mentioned earlier to ensure, as far as possible, that the candidates you interview from us have a genuine interest in your company. We all know of the passing trade in the unemployed, freelancers and the flood of people from abroad and, in fairness, there are some talented people among them. However, the people who are really sought after are more than likely to be employed by a rival company working their nuts off getting ready for the next pitch or presentation. They don't have time to browse through creative Review, Campaign or Design Week and, in any case, they are not actively looking. How many times have you experienced these frustrations which are costly and time consuming especially when you have a million and one other pressing issues. So, what makes us different to you? If you have trouble finding a candidate, why should it be easy for us? Well, it isn't but at least that's all we do! Day in, day out! We advertise regularly in the trade press which you don't, unless you have a serious staff problem. As regular advertisers we also get a special series discount which you don't! This is how we are able to keep a continual presence in the marketplace and, in fact, because we are so well known candidates will often come to us as a first port of call even before they read the press or search online. The other benefit, of course, is that we charge our clients a fee. How can that be a benefit to us! you say. Well, unlike placing an expensive ad in the media, you only pay us a fee if we are successful and you hire someone from us. With an ad, you pay whatever the outcome. We also offer a discount for fast payment and are sympathetic to small companies with our fee structures. At the end of the day, we like to end up with three happy people; you the client, the candidate and, of course, us which we usually manage!
